• Employers’ liability insurance will cover the cost of a claim if an employee has an accident at work. It will also cover claims for contracted illnesses, even if symptoms develop after an employee has left your services.
• Always ensure that your employees are covered. Fines of up to £2,500 could be issued for every day that you don’t have employers’ liability insurance in place!
• Check that you are entering the appropriate number of clerical and manual staff that you employ through your business (if you employ both types).
• Remember to include any part-time workers, casual workers, temporary members of staff and all directors in your insurance policy.
• Keep a record of any documentation relating to your employers’ liability insurance, even if this documentation has expired (you never know when you might need it). Claims can be made against you, years after the event.
• Be vigilant with relevant health and safety regulations for your business. This can significantly reduce the likelihood of employee accidents and illnesses occurring in the first place!
